2nd year is over, and the future challenges ahead

May 22, 2008
Just today I finished my last final, and ohhhh man what a relief! Six finals in one week is brutal! This quarter was definitely the hardest so far and I'm glad it's over with. Now that the class of 2010 are third years, we will be now have a regular clinic schedule, and we'll be seeing patients through the summer onward. We will have 12-16 hours of clinic each week in different departments, including primary care, ocular disease, vision therapy, contact lenses, and optical. On top of that we have a full class load. It's summer, but we only have a very short summer vacation, which is only from now til our first day of clinic on June 9 (d'oh!). Although our class load is less, clinic now makes up for it. In other words, the pressure in clinic is pretty intense!

End of year banquet and reading week

May 11, 2008
This week is reading week, and we have our first of six midterms this Thursday. Here's what our finals schedule looks like:

Thursday: Case Analysis
Friday: Ocular Pharmacology
Monday: Ocular Disease
Tuesday: Vision Therapy
Wednesday: Contact Lenses
Thursday: Biostatistics

The following week after this one will be brutal because we have four finals in a row!!! I feel like I don't know where to start and I still haven't formulated a strategy yet (should I study some Ocular Disease now? Or should I start Case Analysis already???).

Last week of classes for 2nd year

May 04, 2008
Finally, the last week of classes! Unfortunately the schedule doesn't taper off before finals since I still have the regular two lecture exams, and I have a contact lens proficiency on top of that. Also I wanted to mention that I have been recently selected as one of the chairs of the Department of Community Health (there are three chairpersons total). It was not really a "vote" actually since only three people ran for the position, but regardless it feels great to finally be involved with the school now that since 3rd year is going to be a little less busier than 2nd year. The position basically involves coordinating community service events around the area, including vision screenings, blood donation drives, and other similar events. It's going to be a blast since I ran a very similar position in my old fraternity during undergrad, and I had lots of fun doing it. Okay, well wish me luck for this week - especially for the midterm coming up on Friday (Ocular Disease!!!).
